FATH, THE MASTER KEY
In the story of Elisha’s prophecy in 2 Kings 7:1-10, we see how God provides abundantly for His people. Elisha prophesied that by the next day, there would be an abundance of food in Samaria, despite the siege by the Syrian army. However, one of the king’s aides doubted God’s ability to provide, saying, “Behold, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, might such a thing be?” (2 Kings 7:2). Elisha responded, “You will see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of it” (2 Kings 7:2).
Meanwhile, four lepers outside the gate of Samaria decided to take a risk and go to share in the spoils of war. They reasoned, “If we say, ‘We’ll just stay here and wait,’ we’ll die anyway. But if we go into the camp, we might be spared or killed, but at least we’ll have a chance” (2 Kings 7:4). This decision to act was motivated by their desperation and faith in God’s power to provide.
The Bible says, “The people of God are called to walk by faith and not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). This means trusting in God’s goodness and power, even when circumstances seem impossible. As the lepers approached the Syrian camp, they found that God had already worked on their behalf, causing the Syrians to hear a noise and flee in panic (2 Kings 7:6-7). The lepers entered the camp and found it deserted, with plenty of food and treasure left behind.
This story teaches us that unlocking opportunities requires faith, action, and a willingness to take calculated risks.
We must trust in God’s sovereignty and provision, knowing that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). As the Bible says, “The just shall live by faith” (Hebrews 10:38), and “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).
May we be encouraged by the story of the four lepers to take faith-filled action and unlock the opportunities that God has placed before us.
