The Power of Spoken Words

Anchor Scripture: Mark 11:23

Mark 11:23 (KJV)“For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”

Nothing in the spiritual or physical realm shifts until faith-filled words are spoken. Everything remains stagnant until we address our situations with words aligned with God’s truth. This principle was demonstrated from the very beginning when God spoke the universe into existence rather than merely thinking it into being.

Notice that the word “say” appears three times in this single verse. Jesus emphasizes that we must continuously address our mountains—not with one word on one day, but persistently. The mountain represents impossibilities, cumbersome situations, difficult tasks, and treacherous circumstances. Yet Jesus encourages us to speak to it.

Because we are made in God’s image, our words are not empty vibrations. They are spiritual vessels carrying life, transformation, and divine authority when aligned with God’s truth. Your words about your marriage, children, career, health, and family carry power to create or destroy.

Hebrews 11:3 (KJV)“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”

God framed the dispensations and the planet itself by His Word. The invisible controls the visible. Nothing comes to reality unless first created in the unseen realm. God’s Word structured all of creation, and these words are fundamental building blocks of reality.

Isaiah 46:10 (KJV)“Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.”

God declares the end from the beginning. He speaks into His tomorrow. When you know God’s will and promises, you align your mouth to speak in consonance with His Word for your life.

Romans 4:17 (KJV)“Even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.”

God calls things that do not exist as though they already exist. This is how He operates. When the angel called Gideon a mighty man of valor, Gideon was hiding and scraping for food. God speaks into the future. Since we are made in His likeness, we must learn to speak faith-filled words that project God’s thoughts from our hearts. This requires studying the Bible to know God’s mind.

Ezekiel 37 demonstrates this principle powerfully. Ezekiel stood in a valley of dry, hopeless bones—total devastation. God did not speak directly to the bones Himself. Instead, He used human agency. He instructed Ezekiel to prophesy. Nothing changed until Ezekiel opened his mouth. When divine prompting met human utterance, transformation occurred—bones came together, breath entered them, and a vast army stood up.

2 Corinthians 4:13 (KJV)“We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.”

Your speaking is the proof of your believing. If you claim to believe you are healed, successful, or the head and not the tail, your belief is validated by your speech. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

Romans 10:10 (KJV)“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

The word salvation here is sozo—meaning redemption, deliverance, healing, and preservation. Believing in your heart is essential, but actualization begins when you speak. Faith in your heart remains dormant until you declare with your mouth.

Proverbs 18:21 (KJV)“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

This truth remains: your confession dictates your destination. The spies who brought an evil report in Numbers 13 limited themselves and perished in the wilderness because they spoke defeat. It is evil to speak negatively about what God has invested in you. God has shone in our hearts to give the knowledge of His glory.

What do you say about your situation? Your career? Your business? Your walk with God? Even when it looks dry, rough, or difficult, speak to your mountain. If you shall say to this mountain—without doubting in your heart—you shall have whatsoever you say.
